Kevin Parker certainly isn't the only person to take the stage for Tame Impala shows, but make no mistake: the guitarist-vocalist is and has always been the band's decision-making overlord (in a nice way). The Perth, Australia–based musician established the band as a bedroom project, and his goodnatured psychedelic dreams glow with an expanding frame of ambition. He originally intended for Innerspeaker, Tame Impala's debut LP, to comprise two discs, until he was in the studio and drunkenly realized how much work was left on one alone. (The fact that he recorded most of the instrumentation probably made the idea of two CDs especially painful.) Despite its abbreviated form, the resulting album yields fantastical, enormous grooves, flowing like pre–Alive as You Are Darker My Love. Parker's lyrics are suitably big and vague, too — "Lucidity/Come back to me," from "Lucidity," could double as the band's mantra.
