Audiovisual Hallucination

Anyone, anywhere can pop a champagne cork to usher in 2011, but supplementing this bubbly act with cutting-edge art and music is not so easy. Lucky for you, we found New Year's Eve at the Lab, programmed by local artist and musician Bryan Von Reuter. He has arranged a performance by the LAG Ensemble, experimental composers whose interest in uniting the fields of art, gaming, and music result in compelling soundscapes that range from the beat-driven to the ethereal. In September they played at the SuperCollider Symposium in Berlin and have used technology to connect their members across four time zones during performances. Andrew Benson is also on the docket. The local media artist assembles frenetic computer-graphic-laden videos accompanied by pulsating electronic music to create an immersive experience. Local band White Cloud ferries you into 2011 with its addictive brand of guitar-heavy psychedelic pop. The comparisons to heavy hitters such as Sonic Youth and the Velvet Underground are well-earned by the foursome, and they also incorporate a hint of Neu!-ish krautrock into their tunes.
