We love to dress up on New Year's Eve. Unless you're fabulously well-to-do and frequent high-end events with power brokers, fashion mavens, and the biggest wheels of industry, when else can you wear tails and a top hat or a heart-stopping cocktail dress? New Year's Eve at Bimbo's 365 Club is a perfect opportunity to put on your yesteryear best and enjoy great music, good company, and all the revelry you can eat. But what really gets us about tonight is the Girl in the Fishbowl. Walk to the bar and there she is — Dolphina — in all her full-frontal glory, appearing to swim in a big aquarium. We don't know for sure how this is done, but we have it on good authority that it involves a separate room, a video camera, some electricity, and (obviously) Dolphina, a real nekkid girl. Thing is, Bimbo's has been doing it since 1931. (Maybe they used mirrors back then?) Topping the musical lineup is the high-energy Lavay Smith and Her Red Hot Skillet Lickers. The fact that they once headlined a New Year's Eve party thrown by Johnny Otis is all the endorsement we need. San Francisco lounge-act veteran Mr. Lucky leads a variation of his 1940s parade with the Cocktail Party Featuring Ralph Carney. Also prepare yourself for Casino Royale, JP & the Rhythm Chasers, and Kitty Kitty Bang Bang Burlesque.
