Exene Cervenka's howl is the idiosyncratic tell of an X song. But the Los Angeles punk band, formed in 1977 by Cervenka, Billy Zoom, John Doe, and D.J. Bonebrake, is known for a whole lot more than the aforementioned voice — including Zoom's expert rockabilly guitar skills and dueling vocals courtesy of Cervenka's bandmate and former husband, Doe. During the band's upcoming two-day Slim's showcase, the original lineup will play renowned 1980 album Los Angeles along with the record's producer, Ray Manzarek, whom some may know as the keyboardist of a little band called the Doors. Groundbreaking and original, the title song of Los Angeles offers one of the most memorable opening riffs of early West Coast punk. This concert will mark the 30th anniversary of the record's release. And as an extra holiday treat for the audience, there also will be a screening of documentary X: The Unheard Music.
