What is Still Flyin'? Strictly speaking, it's a band, but only somewhat; really, it's a collective of musically-minded peeps organized — more or less — by a weirdo S.F. transplant named Sean Rawls. His group is actually more like some funky musical cavalry than a regular indie-pop outfit – Still Flyin's partytastic shows regularly feature a dozen or more members dancing, flailing, playing, and otherwise assisting in the production of the jerky, reggae-descended, groove-prone soundtrack that seems to emanate from wherever the ensemble gathers. (Oh, and that's before the friends and fans get onstage and dance, too.) Still Flyin' is also a phenomenon, in that this '04-founded assemblage of oddball humanity has had startling success both on the European festival circuit and on tours of this continent. But despite the gleeful reviews, a series of EPs, and last year's debut album, Still Flyin' has remained slippery enough to leave the question of its ultimate nature less than totally clear.
