Hometown guitar hotshot Joe Satriani, who taught Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett among others, shredded like the bald god he is Thursday night at the Fox Theater, and even brought out pal Sammy Hagar for the encore.

Local writer Michael Chabon explained during his week of editing The Atlantic's culture blog that he's actually a huge fan of hip-hop. Since his next book will be about a Berkeley record store, does this mean we should expect a Lil B reference?

S.F. electronic producer Mochipet, famous for his purple dinosaur costume, wants you to draw the artwork for his next single. If he picks your stuff, he'll either cook you dinner, play a show at your house, or make you your own dino costume.

The Dodos, a local indie-pop duo, added alt-country vixen (and critical darling) Neko Case to their lineup for their next album and the foreseeable future. Consider extinction avoided.

Fizzle

Huey Lewis and the News are famously from the Bay Area, but apparently they couldn't be bothered to play here on their latest tour. Guess "The Heart of Rock 'n' Roll" only beats at obscure casinos in Mississippi and Arizona.

Aerial dancer Sarah Johnston, known as Agent Red, says it's unlikely she'll be able to perform professionally again after falling 12 feet onto a concrete floor at the Sea of Dreams party on New Year's Eve.

More than two years after the death of Oscar Grant, and after every Bay rapper made his own track on the subject, Dirty South rapper and Outkast affiliate Killer Mike weighs in on the tragedy in a new single, "Burn." Dude can rhyme, but really?

Thanks to a new antenna design, the Verizon iPhone might actually function as a phone in San Francisco, instead of just a sexy iPod that sends texts. But take heart: It still won't cure cancer, save your marriage, or get you laid.
