Can you — will you — should you even resist making a Christopher Guest joke? The annual Golden Gate Kennel Club Dog Show is upon us, so naturally, we think of Best in Show, the loving-absurdist film that spoofs canine enthusiasts. The big news this year is that two new breeds have been recognized by the American Kennel Club and are therefore to appear here for the first time: Portuguese Podengo Pequeños and Rat Terriers. Also, squee! There is a Best Puppy in Show prize. Oh wait, does that mean there are people backstage screaming, "Be cuter! You have to be the cutest! I need that Pedigree brand folding chair!" at their poor baby dogs? Because that's what would happen in a Christopher Guest film. No, we're sure nothing like that goes down around here. Instead, everyone is playing flyball, jumping, laughing, barking, and learning about the wonders of purebred friends. Good boy!
