We Love You, GW, Oh Yes We Dooooo ...

It's a little annoying when a band that's putting San Francisco on the national radar is made up of women who are really level-headed. Grass Widow's trio of redhots is a wildly talented group that draws on the loud, contrapuntal sound of late-'90s postpunk like the Breeders, and all three ladies are also calm, reasonable, nice people. Don't they know audiences like their musicians to get crazy, irresponsible, mean, and high? But seriously, Grass Widow's recent signing to Kill Rock Stars is only one reason we're proud to call 'em ours; others include the three-part harmonies that sound like they were made on a loom. Tonight's show won't have the epic chaos of the warehouse show a few months ago — the one with giant projected archival films, enormous chandelier, and 20-woman backup chorus including children, grey heads, and at least one wheelchair — but it is a benefit for the independent film house. The benefit also includes a massive art auction and lots of screenings; the event starts at 5:30 p.m.

Puce Moment opens for Grass Widow.
