Not the Crime Kind, the Other Kind

It's the same word as the thing you do with skin, when you cut some off and attach it in a new place, and it's a similar idea. But fruit tree grafting is a lot more fun. At today's Grafting Clinic, Matthew Sutton conducts a workshop — and “workshop” means it's hands-on, and you walk away with your own new organic cyborg tree that you made with your hands. This makes you feel like God, except it also makes you wonder how even much more powerful a doctor performing a skin graft must feel, which makes you wonder about doctors. Doctors are so weird. But stick to the subject, or your young Frankenstein's root ball may suffer — truck that baby home and set up a calendar for exactly how often you plan to stand in front of it, raise your hands, shake them, and bellow “LIFE! Give my creation LIFE!” This is all normal and natural, as is grafting and the three-flavor apple tree that springs from it.
