• With only a few days' notice, Prince's Welcome 2 America tour showed up in Oakland for three amazing shows last week. He brought Carlos Santana, Sheila E., Larry Graham, and sold-out crowds with him.

Britney Spears plans to give a "special concert" on Good Morning America from the Castro District on March 29, the day her new album, Femme Fatale, comes out.

Dan Deacon brought film director and newfound collaborator Francis Ford Coppola to the Independent for his show on the opening night of Noise Pop last week. Then he led the crowd in mass interpretive dance while performing right in the middle of it.

• Local DJ Goldenchyld won Red Bull's Thre3Style DJ contest last week at DNA Lounge, beating out Jeffrey Paradise, Natalie Nuxx, Eric Sharp, and many others.

Fizzle

• Prince fan Perry Litchfield was mobbed by fellow concertgoers Thursday night after catching a guitar Prince threw offstage. Adding insult to injury, a stagehand then forced him to give the axe back.

• Oakland metal band High on Fire is stuck in New Zealand in the wake of the recent earthquake. But at least it's still playing shows there.

• Local throwback-rockers the Stone Foxes headlined the Indy for Noise Pop last week, treading through familiar — and bland — blues-rock territory.

• Because of a mega-sold-out situation, access for Noise Pop badge holders to Saturday's Best Coast/Wavves show was cut off immediately at the show's 8 p.m. start time. But it was the last night of the tour, and an uninspired set made Best Coast seem especially ready for the end.
