Dance-making is about specificity, says choreographer Brenda Way. It should “alert your eye or trigger your consciousness.” The two world premieres that anchor tonight's program of ODC/Dance Downtown 2011: A Force at Forty sound very specific. Kimi Okada's I Look Vacantly at the Pacific ... Though Regret is inspired partially by a pencil-box, but it opens out into intercultural communication. And Way's Architecture of Light II originated as a dance in honor of the company's just-reopened home theater -- the building itself inspired the dance, and housed the original -- so this new version might have something to do with the space in which you sit. Way and ODC co-founders KT Nelson and Okada have produced moving art for as long as some of us have been alive, which alerts our eye and triggers our consciousness.
