Filmmaker Rosa Menkman's vocabulary is different from ours, and probably different from other filmmakers, too. She uses terms we love, but don't know: lossy, chrominance, codecs, forward-predicted frames, and luminance algorithms. She's part of “Transcosmic Geometry,” a night of experimental film, video, and bug zappers, brought to you by the Free Form Film Series. The theme of the evening is “static,” including interference and feedback, white-noise-style. Curator Paul Baker performs a live installation concentrating on the sights and sounds of skipping, buzzing, hiccup-beeps, and pixellation (Menkman probably knows a better word for it) -- and he's the one bringing the bug zapper. He's also got a radio for sonic snow, a hair dryer, and a Tesla coil. Joel Cadman, Gilles Chartier, Sabrina Ratte, and Lars Larsen also screen oscillating cosine functions.
