One of the Bay Area's foremost purveyors of DIY avant-rock insanity, Oakland's Sleepytime Gorilla Museum has crafted a uniquely fractured artistic vision since 1999. A collision of modern-classical dissonance, complex black metal, and otherworldly theatrics incorporating such exotica as Japanese butoh dance and an outlandish arsenal of homemade instruments, the band's immersive concerts have earned it a global following. Sadly, the strain of bicoastal living (three members live on the West Coast, two live in New York) has led Sleepytime to call it a day.
