You Are My Shiny Star

Exclusive: formerly homeless dancers, singers, comedians, and more. Does that sound exploity? It isn’t. Nowhere can you see joy on a performer’s face like you can at A Night with the Stars. Nowhere. All the people onstage tonight are going strong, not just expressing themselves on one of the city’s best stages, but doing so with the support of a behind-the-scenes professional coach. San Francisco Ballet dancer Quinn Wharton, jazz piano player Billy Philadelphia, and actor Dan Hoyle are a few of the mentors who have helped shape the performances. The setup is an analog of the benefiting organization’s structure — Community Housing Project puts homeless people indoors, with tons of support, and guess what? It works. So does tonight’s performance; beautifully, if past years are any gauge. KTVU news anchor Dave Clark emcees.
