If your (likely complicated) enthusiasm for William Burroughs is not yet sated by Yony Leyser’s tremendous documentary William S. Burroughs: A Man Within, you are in great, filthy luck. Local composer Erling Wold is mounting his lauded chamber opera production of Queer on its 10th anniversary (the novel itself was published 25 years ago). He also brings Joe Wicht (better known as draglebrity Trauma Flintstone) back in the lead role of William Lee, Burroughs’s pseudonym in this tale of his time spent in Mexico City. Queer takes place in the 1940s, when Burroughs fled charges of heroin and marijuana possession in the United States for a place where this charismatic and tragic addict’s dalliances might go unchecked. In addition to the highly creative play with live original music, the production includes a panel discussion at 3 p.m. on May 21 with a thrilling collection of folks, including local authors Robert Gluck and Kevin Killian, V. Vale (seminal publisher of RE/Search books, including one devoted to Burroughs), and Wold himself.
Fridays-Sundays, 7 p.m. Starts: May 20. Continues through May 29, 2011
