If Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?: Old-School Hip-Hop Edition ever materializes, Peanut Butter Wolf (aka Chris Manak) will be the consummate Phone-a-Friend. The San Jose producer, DJ, and Stones Throw Records founder first heard "Rapper's Delight" in 1979, attended breakdance competitions at his local Chuck E. Cheese when such things apparently existed, and got his start DJing at a birthday party in 1984. As an adult, he's still smitten with the genre's formative days, as seen by his curation of 45 Live, a 2009 box set teaming 45 RPM singles by Biz Markie and Big Daddy Kane with vinyl sides by lesser-known artists like Dimples D and Stezo. This Friday's live event adheres to a similar tack, with Manak and cohorts reanimating more small black pancakes from the archives and spinning them onstage. This is one of those parties where you can learn something.
