• Local star Carlos Santana — who was born in Mexico and lived in Bernal Heights and the Mission — used the annual Civil Rights baseball game to blast a new draconian immigration law in Georgia. "People are afraid we're going to steal your job," he said. "No, we aren't. You're not going to change sheets and clean toilets."

• New Wave heroes the Cars came to the Fox in Oakland on Friday. They didn't play "Drive," their biggest hit, but the rest of the show was equal parts flashy display of a retooled act and '80s group singalong.

• Last-minute show alert: Lauryn Hill announced plans to play a Bob Marley tribute this Thursday, May 19, at Mezzanine, and Prince is taking a hiatus from his L.A. residency to perform at HP Pavilion in San Jose on May 19 and 21.

• The SFJazz organization broke ground on its new headquarters at Fell and Franklin — the country's first and only music facility built specifically for jazz.

Fizzle

• The video of Jane's Addiction performing at Google's I/O developer conference gave us a glimpse of an icky future in which inconsiderate nerd types take video throughout entire shows by holding tablet computers high over their heads. Some of us still enjoy watching performances in the real world, guys.

• Speaking of Google, the web giant announced its new cloud music service — and what a bummer. Google couldn't reach a deal with the big labels, so any music you want to stream from the cloud has to be uploaded there first. That won't be a quick process. The cloud music revolution is now in your hands, Apple.

• We enjoyed watching the Kills at the Fillmore, but couldn't help feeling their music is more like a fashionable image of rock 'n' roll than the real thing. There was lots of drama, lots of volume — and a few damn good songs — but also the sense of two people who are trying way too hard.
