More About
You dont have to sell any Californians on the abundance of Asian and Latino cultural influences in the visual landscape and San Francisco is particularly rich like that. Of course, the influence is not just seen but tasted, heard, and otherwise allowed to caress our tender senses. Anyone who ventures out of the U.S. admits that at some point while out there, they just wanted a freaking Mission burrito, for example. Tonights opening for Chico and Chang features artists who explore the blending and discord of Latino and Asian cultures in California, digging for nuance, humor, and a little truth. Among the artists is the fabulous Tracey Snelling, whose exquisite miniatures detail interesting pockets and less-explored corners of life, with video and sound accompaniments. Fundraising event Hybrid Fusion occurs in conjunction with the art opening, offering a panoply of culinary pleasures brought to our shores from our neighbors to the south and west; proceeds go to the gallerys youth engagement and education programs.
Tuesdays-Saturdays. Starts: June 11. Continues through Aug. 20, 2011
