O.G. Punks
There aren't many great punk bands still active who can say they were around for the genre's early days, but Stiff Little Fingers thankfully remain one of the exceptions. Cribbing their moniker from a Vibrators song, Jake Burns and company were kids when the band started in 1977. Though there have been no shortage of bumps along the way — member swapouts, the lukewarm reception to '82's Now Then..., and a break-up in '83 — the Belfast bunch remains the definitive name in Northern Irish punk (even if Ted Leo is their closest descendant). SLF's discography highlights include the pensive "Bits of Kids," the upbeat "Roots, Radicals, Rockers, and Reggae" (the punk equivalent to Lennon's "Imagine"), and "Suspect Device," an incendiary gem from 1979 debut Inflammable Material. An update on the quartet’s 10th record (its last came out in 2007) is bound to trickle out soon.
