Normally, people make a record and then go out and play the songs from that record. It’s a fine way to do things, but now that we think about it, why don’t people do it the other way around sometimes, the way Mark Growden and Myles Boisen are? Set to record a new album in New Orleans next month, provided it’s still there after the Mississippi has its way (too soon?), the pair are debuting the songs here in San Francisco beforehand. Why not? Growden is a talented multi-instrumentalist and genre-hopper who intends to play a lot of saxophone this time around; Boisen plays guitar, and the rest of the musicians are in New Orleans. An exhibit of Growden’s art is also on display.
