A Guide to NorCal Music Festivals

Even in San Francisco, there are so many music festivals that it can be hard to keep them all straight. Start taking into account some of the bigger annual festivals around Northern California, and it's darn near impossible to remember what happens when. To help you get the most live music out of your summer and fall, we've gathered some of the most noteworthy big music gatherings. We've limited this list to multiday outdoor happenings — excluding smaller, but still great events like S.F. Popfest, Mission Creek Music Festival, and SF Weekly's own All Shook Down Festival — to keep it manageable. Here goes:

Rock the Bells is bigger than all of these except outside lands and high sierra. Its ommission is just another example of the prejudicial steamroll that is at the heart of the newly reestablished (and rediculously impossible) anti-rap platform. Just remember, if you still can't appreciate this art form despite its obvious merits, haha, your kids will.
