The Politics of Sexual Health

Planned Parenthood offers a multitude of sexual health services to those in need regardless of financial background, gender, or age, which is a nice thing, especially for those of us who are uninsured. Yet GOP leaders in the House as well as conservative politicians at the state level have targeted Planned Parenthood for defunding. Cecile Richards, president of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, tonight outlines arguments from different sides of the controversy and addresses how the debate about abortion has taken away from the organization’s overall goal of providing affordable health services. Tonight, see how Richards can keep her composure even when her organization is being smeared with hysterical campaigns that link the group to sex trafficking. A networking reception beforehand offers the chance to debate how much old conservatives suck (or rock?) and how much Richards looks like a cross between Jamie Lee Curtis and Hillary Clinton. Richards will probably need traits from both women — Curtis’ comedic flair as well as Clinton’s strong will — considering what Planned Parenthood is up against.
