Cibo Matto: Show Preview

If you were only a casual listener, you may remember Cibo Matto — which means "crazy food" in Italian — from the freaky-cheery 1996 video for the Japan-born, New York City-based duo's minor hit, "Know Your Chicken," a late-night MTV staple. In it, Yuka Honda and Miho Hatori (in era-telling baby doll Ts, windbreakers, and short bobs) take viewers on a cheeky, sitcomesque journey through the kitchen of a man, woman, and anarchistic chicken. Fans of this hip-hop-meets-artpop hybrid have been mourning Cibo Matto since it disbanded in 2001. Now, a full decade later, after working on projects with the Plastic Ono Band and Gorillaz respectively, Honda and Hatori are back together. They've been writing new songs and testing them out during a quickie U.S. tour, along with their tried and true back catalog of tunes — which are still brimming with irreverent food references.
