L.A. laptop trio the Glitch Mob has risen fast in its five-year existence, from small clubs to ballrooms, from underground mixtapes to remixing the White Stripes and Daft Punk. Ed Ma, Justin Boreta, and Josh Mayer deserve props for explicitly pursuing future sounds at a time when other indie artists are caught in retro orbits. That includes performing live with Lemur controllers, touchpad devices connected to computers that generate beats, bass notes, and their trademark enormous electro-synths. The Glitch Mob isn't subtle; it takes an adrenaline-charged approach to post-hip-hop instrumental electronic music.
