Wooden Shjips have been kicking around the S.F. rock scene since about 2007, but it may be only now that this drone-heavy band is about to get its proper due. West, its first record for respected Chicago indie Thrill Jockey, distills everything that Wooden Shjips does well into seven songs: titanic riffs, swirling organ notes, and extended compositions that feel like entire universes built for occupation by daydreaming, distortion-loving longhairs.
