• Public Enemy stretched out all its classic songs on Friday in a two-hour set at the Regency Ballroom. Although some of the original samples were missing, we did get to hear Flavor Flav play drums for Chuck D on a pared-down "Timebomb." The guys also signed autographs and shook lots of hands.

• Once-local band Wooden Shjips took us on a trippy drone-rock journey Thursday night with a free show at Bottom of the Hill. Maybe it was the swirling fuzz guitar or the insistent rhythms, but the band's minimalist tunes made us feel like were hurtling through outer space amid psychedelic video projections and pot smoke.

• Never one to pass up an opportunity for bombast, Oakland crunk-pop outfit Wallpaper issued a sexed-up, throbbing cover of Adele's "Rumour Has It." The rewritten lyrics ("He is half my size/So if he's taller than me, I don't mind") might be too nasty for radio, but they sure are funny.

Fizzle

• Friday's Tri Angle Records showcase at 103 Harriet proved to be a disappointment, with mostly mediocre music and terrible live sound. White Ring's singer sounded like Yoko Ono with laryngitis, which was cool, but who decided that headliner oOoOO's debut live set shouldn't happen until after 3 a.m.?

• Hey, so Google started a music blog, Magnifier, to spotlight the songs on its humdrum Music Beta cloud service. Thanks for reminding us this service exists, Google. Now we'll return to ignoring it.

• Kanye West announced that he plans to record a cover of Amy Winehouse's "Back to Black." This after Winehouse herself called West a "cunt" several times when she was alive. We know you're bad at subtlety, Kanye, but you oughta take a hint on this one and leave her music alone.
