Wyatt Cenac regularly skewers the inherent absurdities in politics and race relations as a correspondent for The Daily Show. (See: “Rapper or Republican?”) Catch the Texas native on stage doing standup, however, and you’ll see someone far more casual, but no less sharp. He’s never afraid to get extra lowbrow with his one-liners, perhaps a vestige of his pre-Daily Show gig writing for the Fox animated series King of The Hill. Consider this zinger: “If you shoot steroids into your balls, do you shrink?” His wry wit feels comfortable in self-deprecating territory — a refreshing change from his television pieces — which can smartly take the fire out of a controversial subject and replace it with laughter.
