We've told you about Monday Night ForePlays, the female-driven variety show that scores big laughs on serious subjects through brutal honesty. Over the past year the women behind the show part of PianoFight Productions have kept that honest streak while taking a turn toward the utterly absurd. And in the hands of these writers and performers who've played well together for almost two years, we love the utterly absurd. One recent sketch, for example, featured Dora the Explorer visiting the Tenderloin to interview a tranny prostitute and a homeless man. Its fall show, Don't Tell Mom the Weekend's Dead!, wanders even farther off the reality-based path. According to producer Kate Jones, sketches includes bison pansexuality, a pop group wearing vinyl bras and dispensing financial advice, gamete-on-gamete romance, and a send-up of the teen book series The Baby-Sitters Club. In addition to sketches, you get comedians Natasha Muse, Kelly McCarron, Liz Grant, and Lilibeth Helson. Musical acts include Miranda Jones, Mal Blum, Jena McRae, and Zoe Boekbinder. As if Mondays weren't absurd enough already.
Mondays. Starts: Sept. 19. Continues through Oct. 24, 2011
