Poetry in Clay: Korean Buncheong Ceramics from Leeum is a major new special exhibition at the Asian Art Museum, replacing the popular Bali show. Todays Buncheong Symposium digs deep into the history and significance of this pale, printed form of functional sculpture. Kim Youngwon from the National Research Institute of Korea and Drs. John Duncan and Robert Mowry provide background, including a discussion of buncheongs relationship to its famous predecessor, celadon. Bringing the conversation into the present, Kyungja Hwang (whos done major studies in Seoul and New York City) discusses the effects on contemporary Korean artists, especially potters; the museums own Korean art curator Hyonjeong Kim Han moderates.
