Rio de Janeiro-by-way-of-London producer Amon Tobin chops and splices samples with the precision of DJ Shadow. He has an ear for musicality that recalls Tim Hecker, and his tracks are as haunting as anything by Four Tet. Really, though, Tobin's aesthetic is completely his own. Now seven albums into a diverse career, Tobin is also a DJ for hire, spinning in industrial clubs all over the globe. His 2011 album ISAM has a multicultural flavor (likely informed by his experiences living on four continents), but Tobin's vision is unique, with ominous breakbeats and distorted, jazzy vocal loops slithering into the ether. For this tour, Tobin had a towering mass of screens built to visually duplicate the sonic textures on the album.
