If one of the jobs of a great city is to provide residents with a boon of affordable festivals, then San Francisco deserves a raise. If your rigorous schedule of themed weekend arts endeavors has you missing soccer practice or bird-watching, we understand. So much greatness to absorb! Regard Taiwan Film Days. Grab a seat and take in a vast array of narratives relating to Taiwanese life. There’s comedy, drama, and documentary on the schedule, and all you need do is know how to park your butt in front of a screen. One documentary is Taivalu, which is about Tuvalu, an island nation expected to be swallowed by the ocean as environmental distress causes water levels to rise. The issues faced by Tuvalu are similar to concerns in Tainan, Taiwan. Among the panoply of pleasures presented elsewhere in this program, see astute contemplation of the human spirit, playful stories, love, family, and spirituality. You’ll be thankful to the filmmakers (some of whom appear at their respective screenings), and grateful to live in a town where they are presented.
