The Strange Boys will sow at least some confusion — and probably a lot of it — by naming their third studio album Live Music. The title refers not to music performed in person, but rather being present in the music — living it. And with this Austin four-piece settling on an affecting mix of classic, piano-driven Americana and broken-down slacker blues, led by the whiny drawl of frontman Ryan Sambol, it feels like the Strange Boys have indeed poured their weary selves into these 14 songs. Tempos struggle to wake up, guitar leads only barely resolve, and Sambol mumbles his way through highlights like "Saddest" and "Omnia Boa." The blues riffs and piano vamps are familiar, but these boys are reworking classic forms to fill the weird, dark times they're living in. If some confusion results, that's entirely appropriate.
