It's in the Bag

Jibz Cameron is not known for her subtlety, and that's exactly why we love her. Performing as her alter ego Dynasty Handbag, lipstick smeared across her face, Cameron leaves no uncomfortable issue unexamined, whether it's planning her own funeral in front of a live audience or cavorting with a burqa-clad woman in one of her videos. She has opened for musical act the Gossip, split a bill with fellow performance artist Nao Bustamante, and gotten crazy at the Folsom Street Fair. Now she returns to San Francisco to show off new work and to resuscitate some old favorites. Hilarity ensues in a twisted version of The Dating Game where Ms. Handbag picks from four unusual suitors, one of whom might be a stuffed dog in a bandana and cowboy hat. The epic "Bags" is also on the program, a piece in which Cameron interacts with talking purses. Each has its own personality and agenda for the hapless Dynasty, and she finds herself submitting to their whims despite their increasingly ridiculous demands. Local duo Beth Lisick and Tara Jepsen (the latter of which writes for this very section) open the show with their character-driven comedy act “Groomed for Success,” sure to prepar you for the insanity to follow. You'll laugh, you'll squirm, you'll scream for more.
