Dark Room Productions has a 50-megaton death wish: It’s presenting Dr. Strangelove: Live! Or How I Stopped Worrying and Learned to Love the Bomb Anyway. Having just watched Peter Sellers call the president “mein Führer” and combat his own alien hand on YouTube, we don’t know how anyone can watch another actor doing the same onstage (even if it is the incomparable Sean Kelly) and not pine — not ache — for Stanley Kubrick’s original, just like you are aching for it now. What’s that? You have yet to see the finest political satire ever made? Which not only stars Peter Sellers in three roles, and a brilliantly unhinged George C. Scott, but also has a perfect 100 on the Tomatometer? What kind of commie bastard are you? This is exactly the sort of American cultural laziness that people like Brig. Gen. Jack D. Ripper have gone insane fighting for, and all the more reason to get yourself to a terminal, before curtain, to watch clips until your eyes bleed pitch-perfect black comedy. You need to be locked and loaded for this miracle; you have to know. As for the cast: Godspeed, sirs and madams — especially you, Sean Kelly. This is a suicide mission. You mustn’t let down Gen. Buck Turgidson.
Thursdays-Saturdays. Starts: Dec. 1. Continues through Dec. 17, 2011
