Consumer spending may stimulate the larger economy, but screw the larger economy. We’d rather stimulate the small, sad economy of someone who just wants to pay the electric bill or buy a burrito (al pastor, if we have any say) by shopping at the Renegade Craft Fair Holiday Market. Now, you may be thinking, Isn’t this just Etsy with a roof, full of jewelry and indie hats and cute owl what-have-yous? Very much so! But with more than 250 vendors spread out in one of the city’s largest exhibition centers, you’ll find much more than that — also much more than letterpress cards, flouncy dresses, plush toys, and homemade soap. And crocheted this ’n’ that. And lapel pins with witty sayings on them. And art! We almost forgot about all the art you always find at these things: the witty sculptures, the inventive city maps, the adorable animal line-drawings. Granted, you won’t find much more than all this — belts, we forgot belts — but if you have an indie grandfather, stop by Huntington Base Ball Co. to witness brilliant replica balls and bats from leagues past. And we would be remiss not to mention the bicycle-gear wall clocks from 1.by.liz, because your brother just told us he wants one. A final word of caution: Wood Thumb is selling wooden neckties, so tread carefully. You can’t “unsee” a wooden necktie.
