It's straight out of a movie scene — where a great song comes on and all the actors know the same choreographed dance. At tonight's event, not only can you learn dance moves a little beforehand to make you look good for that special someone you’re eyeing from across the room, but you get to celebrate at a New Year’s Eve party that has one of the most unusual themes we’ve seen. This year, Swing Goth, an organization that’s dedicated to partner dancing to modern music, presents Gaiman vs. Moore: Fanageddon. Partygoers are encouraged to come dressed in the themes of comic-book authors Alan Moore or Neil Gaiman — whomever they think is better. (Moore produced Watchmen, V for Vendetta, and League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, while Gaiman's works include The Sandman, Coraline, Stardustand American Gods.) Preceding the party, a quick dance lesson is provided, teaching moves including swing and waltz so you can practice on the dance floor. We have it on good authority that there might be a last-minute booking of Unextraordinary Gentlemen, although some details remain in limbo.
