Podcasts — WTF? For years, talk radio hosts were the only people telling us to listen to their podcasts, and we were all, “Suck it, host. You’re already on four hours a day. What more do you want?” In the past few years, however, the right people started doing podcasts — comedians — and suddenly everybody is paying attention. Blame Marc Maron, who reignited his career in 2009 with his excellent WTF with Marc Maron, which he records in his garage. (We also should blame Adam Carrola and Joe Rogan, but it’s best to barely speak of them). S.F. native Greg Proops is also expertly riding the bandwagon with his The Smartest Man in the World podcast (currently number 42 on top comedy iTunes podcasts — not bad at all), which allows him to ramble on about whatever strikes his 100 mph mind. As he told the Onion last month, “It’s the most fun I’ve had in 100 years.” Tonight, he records the podcast live — while sitting in a chair, conversational-style — then continues his regular standup through Dec. 31.
