Valentine's Day is about love. Porn is about sex. Which is to say, porn -- or erotica, smut, however you want to name it -- is not about love. Or is it? About a decade ago, San Francisco photographer David Steinberg wanted to capture genuine connection between people having sex. So the longtime alt-sex author and columnist sought couples with established relationships who'd let him observe and photograph. The result is a moving series called Loving Couples -- stunning photography that involves intense (and explicit) sex, but also eye contact, passion, joy, and connection. Steinberg has since shot sexual photographs of people with disabilities (which he called the SexAbility series) as well as San Francisco transgender women and people in intimate BDSM settings. Some of Steinberg's work is included in "On the Edge 2." The three-day exhibit includes 400 shots from 25 photographers. Other local photographers include Michael Rosen, Peter Keresztury (who is also the show's curator and producer), Relishguy, and Craig Scoffone.
