Los Campesinos! have been fighting the descriptor "twee" since their beginnings at university together in Cardiff, Wales. That's a common problem for bands that deal in dancey, confessional, sugar-fueled indie pop; throw in a glockenspiel, seven Urban Outfitters-model-esque band members with charming accents and a tendency to abuse exclamation points, and it's an uphill battle indeed. For those growing weary of sunshine and lollipops, 2011's Hello Sadness was a further veer toward the dark side: a chaotic, cathartic breakup album full of lyrics about lost love and, at one point, psoriasis. Of course, when Los Campesinos! are at it, it's a skin condition you can pogo to — which might speak more to the attraction of this band than anything else.
