Innovation was rampant in San Francisco's late-'70s art-punk milieu, but few groups were as progressive as the female duo Noh Mercy. Esmerelda and Tony Hotel coupled the urgency of punk with their performance art backgrounds and established themselves as a compelling drum-and-vocal combo, despite only releasing two songs during their initial existence. Now, promoting Superior Viaduct's recent archival release of the band's lost recordings, the original lineup has re-formed to play its first show since 1980 with local, frantic improvisational post-punk group Erase Errata as support.
