Future Breed Machine

Extreme Swedish quintet Meshuggah has been destroying the boundaries of metal with its quantum-physics complexity and brutal precision for a quarter century. Founded by singer Jens Kidman and guitarist Fredrik Thordendal in 1987, the band rose to international acclaim in the '90s after influential early efforts Destroy Erase Improve and Chaosphere earned the group tour slots supporting the likes of Slayer and Tool. Powered by the inhuman timekeeping of drummer Tomas Haake and Thordendal's melodic, free-jazz fusion fury, Meshuggah shreds the metal envelope once again with its latest Nuclear Blast salvo, Koloss. Joined by equally esoteric Atlanta-based outfit Baroness — which will hopefully preview songs from its forthcoming Relapse Records double album Yellow and Green — and Polish death metallers Decapitated, Meshuggah tops a ferocious triple bill when the band lands at the Fillmore on Sunday, May 6.
