This year’s Amgen Tour of California features new challenges and breathtaking scenery — spanning more than 750 miles in just eight days. Today, San Francisco is the second stop on this Tour de France-style competition, the nation’s largest and best recognized cycling race. Starting at Marina Green, participants traverse a 49-square-mile course, past the Legion of Honor and through Golden Gate Park. Cyclists continue along Highway 1 through parts of Pacifica, Daly City, and Half Moon Bay. A pre-race festival offers fans the opportunity to mingle with elite athletes, Olympic medalists, and world champions. Festivities include a health and fitness expo, cancer awareness education, family activities, food, and entertainment. Now in its seventh year, the race has continued to serve as a free event dedicated to promoting the sport of road cycling, healthy living, and bike safety.
