Looking like the hillbilly cousin of Bela Lugosi-era Dracula and sounding like the infernal love child of Hank Williams and comedian Larry the Cable Guy, Unknown Hinson has been serving up his unrepentantly redneck brand of honky-tonk for two decades. The creation of studio player and music teacher Stuart Daniel Baker for Charlotte, N.C.-based public access show The Wild Wild South during the early 1990s, Hinson takes hard-drinking, gun-toting, two-fisted outlaw country to absurdist heights on songs like "Peace, Love, and Hard Liquor" and "Satan in a Thong." While Baker stays busy doing cartoon voiceover work as Early Cuyler, the balding patriarch of the Appalachian cephalopod clan featured on Adult Swim's Squidbillies, he brings his hilarious alter-ego to town when a touring Unknown Hinson plays The Independent on Sunday, June 10.
