Whether it's science fiction (Asteroid, Mad Max, The Hunger Games) or science fact (global warming, nuclear arms, a pregnant Kardashian), the future can look downright scary. It can also look pretty cool – android housekeepers, "smart cars" that avoid collisions, the holodeck on Star Trek. The truth is probably somewhere in between. Tonight you can see and hear about some of society's best guesses at, well, The Future, a lineup of people representing science, art, music, and journalism. It's assembled by a group called BAASICS.2, which stands for Bay Area Art & Science Interdisciplinary Collaborative Sessions. Physicist and tech journalist Aaron Saenz discusses "good robots, bad robots, and prospects for synthetic life," according to the organizers. Inventor and entrepreneur Joe Betts-Lacroix, meanwhile, stresses the importance of ways to "cure" aging. Artist Scott Kildall reveals facts about his project to transmit tweets toward an "exoplanet" 20 light years from here called GJ667Cc. Musician Ellen Roth Rose and composer Edmund Campion mix a viola with a computer to make "mysterious and beautiful music." After the program there's a reception at nearby Root Division with BAASICS.2 founders Selene Foster and Christopher Reiger "for a provocative and entertaining evening of time travel."
