Tickle Me Elmo

If you've never had the pleasure of suddenly realizing that your life is all a big joke, Philadelphia comedian Big Jay Oakerson, who spent years working as an “Elmo by day, stripper bouncer by night,” offers a wealth of insight on the topic tonight. Oakerson lends himself to the Philly/Jersey school of real-guy, brotherly-love comedy, ripping on fat chicks and frat boys American-style, all with an aversion to ever leaving the country that holds that conglomerate in abundance. Some of his older material's been done before -- the absurdities of To Catch a Predator, for instance -- but with almost 11 years in the field, Oakerson has fine-tuned his keep-it-real energy, drawing on personal anecdotes and inspiration from the Elmo era and beyond. Oakerson's don't-give-a-damn style earned him his last big gig as emcee for the Mayhem Festival, a touring metal show that included Korn and Rob Zombie. Since Comedy Central released his album, An American Storyteller, he's gathering the steam that might force him to start traveling the globe and dealing with Canadian border patrol, but he assures us he'll always be around the block holed up watching Maury, metal as ever.
