Snarks and Rec

Aziz Ansari enjoys a successful career as a sitcom actor, portraying a government employee with uncharacteristic swagger on NBC’s Parks and Recreation. He has also achieved stand-up comedy’s equivalent of pop star status, while still in his twenties, for his funny takes on sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll. Born to Tamil Muslim immigrants from South India and raised in South Carolina, he has incisive insights into race and the immigrant condition, coupled with an almost encyclopedic knowledge and appreciation of pop culture frivolities. These distill into comedy that’s both intellectual and guilty pleasure-inducing. Much of Ansari’s best material is based on his personal experiences, whether it’s something completely out of the ordinary (hobnobbing with Kanye West) or more universal (creepy roommates). Though he’s got a long-standing deal with Comedy Central, he recently followed the independent economic model of colleague Louis C.K. and released his most recent special, Dangerously Delicious, on his own as a five-dollar download. Tonight, Ansari brings fresh material as part of his Buried Alive! tour.
