There are a couple ways to “Disney” if you belong to the non-infantile set: You can stand in line in the sweltering heat with said infants to ride a flying elephant and buy a Mickey Mouse-shaped lollipop, or satisfy your youthful spirit in a decidedly more enjoyable way, with a little darkness and a lot more drinking. Bringing back nightlife events that rival those of Cal Academy and the Exploratorium, The Walt Disney Family Museum is hosting its monthly Animate Your Night after-hours event, Hippos, Demons, and Mice...Oh, Kley!This month the museum celebrates Walt’s favorite European animator, the delectably dark Heinrich Kley, illustrator of the famous “The Dance of the Hours” sequence from Fantasia. Kley’s non-Disney work stayed on the darker side, and his inky animal and human fantasies have recently been re-published in various books. Tonight’s party is cabaret style, featuring entertainment appropriate to the theme, live sketching, and a screening of Fantasia. To drink? Absinthe-laced cocktails and complementary bites from local restaurant Dixie.
