If the past decade of music proves anything, it's that the impossible can happen. Case in point: The popular revival of disco in the mid-'00s, where young DJs in big cities began to practice a form of cultural necromancy on that most forbidden of genres. One of those DJs is Lovefingers (aka Andrew Hogge), the Los Angeles native behind the raucous Black Disco parties, the Lovefingers.org music blog, and the E.S.P. Institute record label. But you might as well throw your preconceived notions of disco out the window — to hear Hogge DJ is to be turned on to a left-field current that incorporates tripped-out jazz-funk, psychedelic krautrock, reggae-tinged garage, and other lost genres from deep in the archives.
