Known for a live show dappled with cheeky pop references and rapturous melodies, Orbital provided a "gateway drug" to electronic music for many indie music fans in the 1990s. Bobbling behind their consoles, wearing their signature penlight-equipped goggles, brothers Phil and Paul Hartnoll owned the rave stage at countless festivals through their unrelenting tweakability. Making subwoofers shudder long before dubstep wobble was the frequency du jour, the Hartnolls program an amalgam of slurred synth riffs and snare rushes, otherworldly klaxons and cascading vocals, delving into tonalities of the last 20 years. Joining two dozen other artists for the Beyond Wonderland festival, Orbital provides a blissed out, burbling wonkiness among drum 'n' bass, dubstep, dirty electrohouse, and blow-up trance. Tony Ware
