Belly Laughs

Wednesday, Oct 3 2012
While it's hard to think of something more deserving of the term "heckle" than an entire audience masticating on giant burritos whilst a comedian tries to get through an act, that messy confluence of humorous performance and hand-held Mexican food is implicit in the design of the San Francisco Comedy & Burrito Festival. Founders Ameen Belbahri and Jeff Cleary, powering their three-day event off a Kickstarter campaign, bring more than 100 comedians to three dozen events in six venues in the Mission -- legendary home of countless taquerias and the Mission burrito. If it takes off, the festival stands to be a pretty substantial addition to the comedy festival circuit. Either way, God help those comedians who under-perform before a crowd of surly folk armed with newborn-sized meat-bombs.
